Ven. Alex Bruce is a Buddhist Monk, Senior Lecturer in Law, Theologian and former Lawyer
with the Competition Commission. He teaches Competition Law, Consumer Protection,
Contracts, Animals & the Law and Interreligious Dialogue. Because of his very wide interdisciplinary skills, unique background and dedication to student’s learning, Alex's
teaching style is singularly described by students as “inspirational”; characterised by
passion, clarity; compassion, relevance and respect.

Alex is very passionate about teaching, describing it as the most rewarding thing he has
have ever done. Because Alex is passionate about teaching, he strives for maximum impact
on student’s learning; impact is assisted by making complex material accessible and
relevant. Alex maintains that transforming complex material into clear, accessible and
relevant knowledge requires a gentle compassion for students’ individual abilities and
circumstances.

Alex's research interests reflect the diversity of his abilities including law, social justice,
theology and interreligious dialogue. When combined in his teaching, these diverse qualities
inspire students beyond the confines of any one of his courses; consistently generating
student comments such as: “Alex Bruce – Best Lecturer I’ve had” (ANUSET Evaluation:
